Huntington, IN - The Huntington North High School Trap Team celebrated a remarkable Fall Season, finishing in 2nd place in their conference. This marks an impressive improvement from last year’s 5th-place finish, showcasing the team’s dedication and growth. The team recently celebrated their accomplishments at an awards banquet, where individual achievements were highlighted.
Dean VanRyn, a Columbia City student who competes with Huntington North, secured 2nd place overall in the Male Division. He hit 25 straight targets on three occasions and led the team with an impressive 23.7/25 average, earning him a spot on the 1st Team Average list. Avery Boxell earned top honors in the Female Division, finishing 1st overall. Avery also hit 25 straight targets twice during the season and achieved a 21.2/25 average, placing her on the 3rd Team Average list. Jaxon Schumm demonstrated precision and consistency, hitting 25 straight targets once and achieving a 22.5/25 average, earning him a place on the 2nd Team Average list.
Other standout contributors included Drew Miller, who achieved a solid 20.8/25 average to place 4th on the team, and Keaton Jones, whose 19.75/25 average rounded out the team’s top five. The team’s success this season was bolstered by a growing roster, with 17 students from grades 7-12 competing, an increase of eight athletes compared to last spring.
The Huntington North Trap Team is eager to continue their upward trajectory, with the Spring Season set to begin in April.
