Huntington North High School is proud to celebrate two outstanding individuals whose dedication, compassion, and professionalism have left a lasting mark on the Viking community. During a heartfelt recognition ceremony, Principal Dr. Russ Degitz announced Mr. Steve Park as the 2024–2025 Teacher of the Year and Mrs. Cyndy Patrick as the 2024–2025 Classified Staff Member of the Year.
Classified Staff Member of the Year: Mrs. Cyndy Patrick
As one of the first faces that students, families, and guests see when entering Huntington North, Mrs. Cyndy Patrick provides a true sense of what it means to be a Viking. Known for her exceptional organization, warm demeanor, and servant’s heart, Cyndy is a cornerstone of the front office and guidance team.
“She deals with all kinds of craziness so the teachers and others don’t have to—and she does it with skill and a smile,” one colleague shared. Another noted, “If there was a Huntington North employee hall of fame, Cyndy would be in it.”
Cyndy manages countless tasks, including coordinating graduation, handling transcript requests, supporting administrators, and helping new and veteran staff alike—all while radiating positivity. As Dr. Degitz noted, “Cyndy is easy to appreciate not just for what she does, but for how she does it.”
Teacher of the Year: Mr. Steve Park
Recognized for his passion, humility, and transformative teaching style, Mr. Steve Park has left a deep impact on Huntington North through his innovative approach to science education and student empowerment.
From leading research expeditions in the Great Lakes to coordinating a life-changing trip to Florida for AP Environmental Science students, Mr. Park consistently goes beyond the classroom. This year, he also launched the HNHS Green Team, which is beautifying the campus and creating an outdoor learning space.
“Steve is who I aspire to be in my career,” a colleague said. “He is a humble educator who brings his very best every day and gives wonderful opportunities to his students.”
In his speech, Mr. Park humbly redirected the recognition to his students, colleagues, and family. “This isn’t about me—it’s about our profession,” he said. “It’s about glorifying God in all that we do and laboring for these wonderful kids.”
As Dr. Degitz proudly shared, Huntington North has had a teacher recognized in the top 25 of Indiana’s State Teacher of the Year six times in the last ten years—a testament to the incredible caliber of educators like Mr. Park.
Please join us in celebrating Mrs. Cyndy Patrick and Mr. Steve Park—two remarkable individuals who embody the heart of Huntington North High School.
